Our history
1987
Guthy|Renker founded
Bill Guthy experiences dramatic increase in demand in his audio cassette manufacturing business caused by television direct marketers selling self-help courses. Choosing to do a little “self-help” of their own while on vacation, personal friends Bill Guthy and Greg Renker study and research the fledgling direct-to-consumer model with an intent to launch and market their own product based on a book they both believed in and followed the principles of: Think and Grow Rich.
1988
Using their own money and limited savings, Bill and Greg launch Think and Grow Rich via television infomercial and open their first office in Palm Desert, CA, with 6 employees. Included as an authoritative testimonial in the infomercial was 24-year-old wunderkind, Tony Robbins.
1989
Guthy|Renker launches self-help course by Tony Robbins which ultimately becomes the bestselling motivational program of all time.
1991
Guthy|Renker launches Principal Secret with well-known actress and creator, Victoria Principal. The skincare system has generated a cumulative $2B in revenue.
1991
Guthy|Renker Co-founds industry trade association, establishing guidelines for truth and integrity; Greg Renker ultimately becomes only Chairman Emeritus.
1997
Guthy|Renker expands internationally, growing Japan business to revenues greater than $200M.
2002
Guthy|Renker launches Winsor Pilates® with Mari Winsor, becoming fastest selling fitness program in the US.
2004
Guthy|Renker launches Meaningful Beauty® with co-creator Cindy Crawford.

Guthy|Renker purchases a minority stake in and becomes a DTC marketing partner with IT Cosmetics.

Guthy|Renker partners with Perricone MD to market its Cold Plasma Sub-D product line.

Guthy|Renker spins off OceanX, a technology platform company providing turnkey fulfillment services for selling physical goods direct through subscriptions and e-commerce.

L’Oreal purchases IT Cosmetics for a reported $1.2B.

Guthy|Renker partners with Jennifer Lopez to launch JLo Beauty®.
